Arirang World Heritage: Sound of Harmony, Symbol of Hope (Thursday, April 24)

Join us for the opening of Arirang World Heritage: Sound of Harmony, Symbol of Hope, featuring Kyoung-Sang Kim’s photography inspired by Korea’s most beloved folk song, plus traditional Korean music and dance performances and a hanji paper craft workshop.

Kyoung-Sang Kim will discuss how her 40 evocative photographs strive to capture the essential movement, sound, and emotion that permeate performances of the Arirang folk song. The program will be preceded by a family-friendly Korean traditional hanji paper craft: making lotus flower leaves, a typical Buddhist temple pastime. Traditional Korean music performances will close out the evening, including a drum dance by Chief Monk Yong Seok, daegeum (transverse bamboo flute) by Seon-Woo Ahn, gayageum (12-stringed zither) by Kyoung-Mi Ha, Jeondo drum dance by Myeong-Hwa Yoon, and vocals with gayageum by Soo-Jung Moon.
