Baltimore Korean Movie Series: Swing Kids

With summer in full swing, the Baltimore Korean Movie Series rolls on with a free screening of the blockbuster dance movie Swing Kids at Parkway Theatre in Baltimore on July 19, part of the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C.'s regional outreach in partnership with the Maryland Film Festival.


In this highly original musical drama set during the Korean War, the soldiers at a POW camp plan a tap show to distract both themselves and the prisoners from the hardships of war. Led by an American former Broadway dancer (Jared Grimesand a rebellious North Korean soldier (Do Kyung-soo), the band of Chinese and South Korean prisoners (Kim Min-hoOh Jung-se, and Park Hye-soofind a new sense of freedom in dancing. Swing Kids (2018) earned Kang Hyeong-cheol the Best Director prize at the prestigious BaekSang Arts Awards, among other plaudits. 

This screening also celebrates the free local Baltimore arts festival Artscape, taking place Friday-Sunday, July 19-21, along Mount Royal Avenue and North Charles Street.


This film is not rated. 133 mins. In Korean with English subtitles. Light Korean food will be provided at 6:30 p.m. just before the film is screened.
