K-Cinema: Hearty Paws (January 10 & 24)

Eleven-year-old Chan-i (Yoo Seung-ho) and his younger sister So-i (Kim Hyang-gi) are a family. Abandoned by their single mother, they struggle to get by but also find ways to enjoy the simple joy in life. Their 'adopted' puppy – named Ma-eum, or Heart – brings a new sense of love and happiness to their small family, as well as a deep loyalty that will outlast even the greatest possible tragedy.

Directed by Park Eun-hyung and Oh Dal-kyun, Hearty Paws (2006), also known by the title Heart Is..., struck a chord with Korean audiences for its combination of cuteness and tugging heartstrings, leading to future successes for its two young lead actors.
