K-Cinema Screening & Social: Master (Feb. 8 & 22)

In this sexy crime action-thriller, Hyun-pil (Lee Byung-Hun) heads up a sketchy multi-level marketing company with an extensive network. Intellectual Criminal Investigation Chief Jae-myung (Gang Dong-Won) is on to the scam, however, and its deep ties to CEOs, politicians, and bureaucrats. Kim catches a break when he persuades the company's mastermind IT architect Jang-gun (Kim Woo-Bin) to talk, but he soon hatches his own plan to betray his boss and make of with the company's huge secret fund. When Jin finally catches wind of the police dragnet closing in, he makes a desperate play to eliminate the pesky investigator for good. In a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, who will end up the real master?

Featuring a star-studded cast, director Cho Ui-seok's stylish thriller Master (2016) sailed to the top of the Korean box office upon release, and went on to screen at festivals around the world, including the Hawaii International Film Festival, The London Korean Film Festival, and Udine Far East Film Festival.
