K-Cinema: The Mayor (May 9 & 23)

In the show business of politics, Seoul mayor Byeon Jong-gu (Choi Min-sik) is a master performer. But one does not become a two-term mayor and aspiring presidential candidate without making a few enemies and keeping a few secrets. As Byeon’s political foes seek to take him down, he recruits promising young editor Park Kyeong (Shim Eun-kyung) and election manager Shim Hyeok-soo (Kwak Do-won) to do some of the dirty work. But even a crisis won’t derail Byeon’s plans, and no underhanded tactics are off the table in this twisted thriller.

Setting aside its gripping story and play on real world sharp-elbowed city politics, Director Park In-je's The Mayor (2017) features major Korean starpower, both male and female, from the iconic Choi Min-sik (Oldboy) and critical darling Kwak Do-won to veteran actress Moon So-ri and rising star Shim Eun-kyung.
