“K-pop makes all of us friends “

The final round of the K-Pop World Festival 2012 went off without a hitch.


This year’s K-Pop World Festival took place in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do (South Gyeongsang Province) on October 26, gathering more than 15,000 K-pop fans from across the world. The grand prize trophy for vocals went to Nadya & Marwah (Indonesia) and for performance to OMG (Czech Republic).

Going above and beyond other singing and dancing competitions, the 2nd annual K-Pop World Festival brought world K-pop fans together in Korea to give them a chance to establish friendships with each other and to experience the Korean lifestyle.


From among the 50,000 contestants hailing from 32 countries, only 15 teams advanced to the final round. The finalists presented their well-honed performing skills and talents on the stage with no signs of nerves at all, gaining worldwide popularity.

This year’s grand prizes worth KRW 10 million were awarded to Nadya & Marwah from Indonesia and OMG from Czech Republic and first prizes were given to Zhang Bi Chen from China and Alem Star from Kazakhstan. The Indonesian team scored Sistar’s ”Ma Boy” on guitar, ending up creating a good emotional song. The team from the Czech Republic showed off their brilliant dancing skills to Girls’ Generation’s hit songs ”Gee,” ”Run Devil Run,” and ”The Boys.”


Two of the highlights were solo female singer Ilonka from Chile who danced to IU’s “Beautiful Day” and Tita Lau from England with captivating vocal skills sung Hyorin’s “I Love You,” both successfully dominating the music scene.


One of the prominent features of this year’s festival was that all the contestants arranged or made changes to existent K-pop songs to fit them to their own styles.


On the same day, Korean groups Secret, A-Pink, TVXQ, MBLAQ, FT Island, and BAP shared the stage in a celebration of the music festival, delighting their fans. “It is so meaningful in that the K-Pop World Festival brings together K-pop fans from all across the world,” said MBLAQ in an interview during the event.

Prior to the main program, the real K-pop stars took the stage and performed the horse-riding dance forom “Gangnam Style” together, heating up the festival.


The K-Pop World Festival will be aired on KBS2 on November 3 and also on the KBS World channel available in 73 nations.
