2016 K-Pop Video Contest

2016 K-Pop Video Contest:

An Online Festival for K-Culture Fans in the United States

The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. is proud to announce the 2016 K-Pop Video Contest, an online event to celebrate the worldwide growth of Korean pop culture, known collectively as Hallyu or the Korean Wave, and to highlight outstanding aspiring music and dance performers.

 

As an entry into the Washington, D.C. competition, fans across the United States are encouraged to submit a K-Pop song cover video or an original work online. Selected winners will be invited to perform at the U.S. national competition is Los Angeles in July for a chance to head to Korea and represent the United States by performing at the K-Pop World Festival this September.

 

Entry Categories

 

This year the contest focuses on one category, K-Pop. Video entries follow a freestyle open theme; participants can express and share their K-Pop dance and vocal skills in any form they like. 

 

Eligibility and How to Enter

 

The contest is open to anyone currently residing in the United States. To focus on the global spread of Hallyu, Korean citizens and those for whom both parents are Korean or are native Korean speakers are not eligible. The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2016. Applicants can enter either the Washington, D.C. online video competition or one of the other U.S. regional competitions (contest terms and format may vary), but not more than one (entries or works submitted to multiple regions may be disqualified).

 

To submit an entry,follow these steps: create a self-made video, publish it on YouTube, ‘Like’ the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/KoreaCultureDC), and post a link to your uploaded video in a comment on the KCC Facebook event page for the contest. 

 

Use the following format to name your video when posting it on YouTube, replacing “Your Name”with your actual first and last name: 

 

K-Pop Video: “[KCC] Your Name K-Pop Video Contest”

 

Videos must be original and made personally by the individual applicant or the applying team.Videos that have already been awarded or selected in other events or contests are not eligible. 

 

Evaluation of Entries

 

Evaluation of entries will be based on scores awarded by a panel of expert judges (60%) as well as the number of YouTube video views for the entry (40%). Judges will be experts in various fields of Korean culture. 

 

Prizes

 

Three winners will be selected from the Washington, D.C. regional competition, and receive prizes as follows:

 

First Place (1 person or 1 team): Eligibility and support to perform at the U.S.National Competition in Los Angeles (up to $2,000 for related travel,accommodation, etc.) and an LG Electronics package

Second Place (1 person or 1 team): Eligibility to perform at the U.S. National Competition in Los Angeles (participants must cover own costs) and an LG Electronics package

Third Place (1 person or 1 team): Eligibility to perform at the U.S. National Competition in Los Angeles (participants must cover own costs) and an LG Electronics package

 

Awards Announcement

 

The KCC will accept and review video entries until June 30 and announce the result in early July via Facebook and the KCC homepage at www.KoreaCultureDC.org.
